Congregational Council

A Message from the Council

March 24, 2020

Dear Fellow Members of St. James,

Last Thursday your congregational council met to discuss the current situation in which we have found ourselves. It was our first meeting since the difficult decision was made to curtail and ultimately stop use of our church facilities. In addition, it became the first council meeting completed entirely without face-to-face contact. While not optimal, it was possible for us to do our work. We would like this opportunity to share our feelings after last night’s discussion.

The council and pastors are unanimous in our conviction that our Church will get through this situation with the impressive strength, strong fellowship, and care we have always shown. Our congregation is strong and will be able to weather this storm. One of the wonderful things about belonging to St. James are the deep roots of our church. Surviving previous wars, pandemics, and various economic upheavals was not easy for our forebearers, but they carried on and we thrive today.

Your council reviewed our resources available and are thankful we have a very strong foundation. We plan to work together to figure out new ways of engaging each other that will help us weather this situation. We will take appropriate action as needed to provide for the continuation of our church. We will be a resource of spiritual support to our members. St. James is blessed with a wonderful staff whom we greatly appreciate. We are committed to maintaining connections in new and diverse ways that might challenge us, but may end up providing us with new benefits As always, we deeply appreciate the financial support you all have given in the past and hope you will continue to do so in the future. This bedrock of support is one of our key assets in this current situation.

Your Council, along with our staff and pastors, is committed to supporting the physical, emotional, and most of all spiritual lives of our members. We will endeavor to provide for these things in the best way possible. It will be in the St. James way: filled with love, concern, caring and of course, just a little touch of humor!
Please feel free to reach out via phone or email to our pastors or council members if you have specific concerns or questions.

Yours in Christ,
Dennis Beres, Vice President
On behalf of St. James Congregational Council
